Sativa-dominant Blueberry × Haze hybrid. Feminized, autoflower and fast versions in stock at Bud Weed Seeds.
Blue Dream seeds grow a sativa-dominant hybrid (roughly 60% sativa, 40% indica) that combines the sweet berry profile of its Blueberry parent with the vigor and stretch of Haze. The cultivar is one of the most widely grown West Coast strains because it finishes in 8–10 weeks, tolerates the mistakes of a first grow, and still delivers 550–700 g/m² (1.8–2.3 oz/ft²) indoors when trained properly. Bud Weed Seeds stocks Blue Dream as photoperiod feminized seeds, autoflower seeds and a fast-flowering version, each backed by a 12-month germination guarantee and discreet worldwide shipping.

Best for

Blue Dream seeds are best for growers who want a forgiving, high-yield sativa-dominant hybrid that can be grown indoors or outdoors without expert technique.
The cultivar suits a first serious grow as well as an experienced grower chasing volume, because its hardy genetics tolerate minor nutrient swings, resist common mold and pests reasonably well, and respond predictably to topping and low-stress training.
Three traits explain why Blue Dream stays on so many grow lists year after year. First, resilience: a seedling that is over-watered or under-fed once rarely stalls for good. Second, yield: few hybrids combine this much output with beginner-level difficulty. Third, flavor: the berry-forward terpene profile is recognizable even in a first harvest that was cured imperfectly.

Seed types

Bud Weed Seeds offers Blue Dream in three formats, and each solves a different problem.
Feminized photoperiod seeds give full control over plant size and the largest harvest. Autoflower seeds trade some of that control for speed and a compact plant that finishes on its own timer. The fast version keeps photoperiod control but shortens flowering by one to two weeks for outdoor growers whose season ends before a standard October harvest. The table below is the single reference for every number quoted on this page.
| Parameter | Feminized | Autoflower | Fast |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light cycle | Photoperiod (18/6 veg → 12/12 flower) | Non-photoperiod (18/6 or 20/4 throughout) | Photoperiod (18/6 → 12/12) |

Choose feminized Blue Dream seeds for a flower-focused grow where plant size, veg length and harvest timing stay under the grower’s control. Bud Weed Seeds produces its feminized line through a silver thiosulfate (STS) reversal process; the resulting seed stock tests at a 99.9% female rate across batches. Feminized seeds are not a mathematical 100% guarantee, and a stressed plant can still show male flowers late in bloom, but in practice a pack of five grows five bud-producing females.
Feminized Blue Dream flowers in 8–10 weeks once the light schedule drops to 12/12. The plant stretches hard in the first three weeks of flower, then fills a trained canopy with dense, frosty colas. It responds well to topping at the fourth or fifth node and to low-stress training, which is how experienced growers reach the upper end of the 550–700 g/m² range. Outdoors, in a Mediterranean or continental climate, a single plant in the ground can reach 3 m and yield well over a kilogram.
Feminized seeds are also the format for growers who want a mother plant. Because the stock is stable and phenotype variation is low, a pack of 10 usually contains one or two keepers worth cloning. Growers who need a shorter season should compare the fast version before buying; growers with a tent under 1.5 m should look at the autoflower.

Choose autoflower Blue Dream seeds when speed, a small footprint and a simple light schedule matter more than maximum yield. The autoflower line crosses Blue Dream with a Cannabis ruderalis parent, which removes the plant’s dependence on day length: it moves from vegetative growth into flower on an internal clock, typically three to four weeks after sprouting, and finishes 9–10 weeks from seed regardless of the light cycle. Most growers run 18 hours of light throughout.
Autoflower Blue Dream is also feminized, so the only difference from the photoperiod line is the grow cycle, not the female rate. Plants stay between 0.6 and 1.2 m tall, which suits balconies, closets and northern gardens where a photoperiod harvest would arrive after the first frost. The ruderalis influence slightly mutes potency (17–21% THC) and reduces yield to 350–450 g/m² indoors or 60–150 g per plant outdoors.
The trade-off is recovery time. An autoflower cannot be vegged longer to repair early damage, so transplant stress, over-watering in the first ten days or heavy topping will cost yield that cannot be recovered. Low-stress training is the only technique Bud Weed Seeds recommends on this line. Growers who want a bigger plant on a short season usually do better with the fast version.
Blue Dream Autoflower — Bud Weed Seeds
AutofloweringFeminizedBlue Dream × Ruderalis
Choose the fast version when the grow is photoperiod but the calendar is tight. Fast Blue Dream flowers in 7–8 weeks after the switch to 12/12, one to two weeks sooner than the standard feminized line, while keeping the full-size plant, the training response and most of the yield. Outdoors it finishes in late September rather than mid-October, which is the difference between a dry harvest and a moldy one at latitudes above roughly 45° north.
The fast line is produced by back-crossing a Blue Dream autoflower into the full-term photoperiod parent and selecting offspring that keep the photoperiod trigger but inherit the shorter bloom. Unlike a true autoflower, a fast version still needs a change in day length to flower, which is why it can be vegged as long as the grower wants and why it still reaches 1.0–1.6 m indoors.
In short: fast is the photoperiod plant on a quicker clock; autoflower is a different plant on its own clock. A grower who confuses the two usually ends up with an autoflower that was vegged under 18/6 for months, waiting for a flip that never mattered.

Genetics

Blue Dream is a cross of Blueberry, an indica-leaning cultivar developed by the breeder DJ Short in the 1970s–1990s, and a Haze sativa — most commonly reported as Super Silver Haze.
Some lines trace to a different Haze cut. The cross is widely attributed to the medical cannabis community around Santa Cruz, California, in the early 2000s; no single breeder has a documented claim to the original seed, and DJ Short’s name is attached because of the Blueberry parent rather than the hybrid itself. Blue Dream Haze seeds sold by some breeders are the same lineage with a stronger Haze expression.
| Parent | Contributes | Visible in the grow |
|---|---|---|
| Blueberry | Sweet berry aroma, dense bud structure, blue-purple pigmentation in cool nights, mold resistance | Chunky colas, fan leaves that turn purple late in an outdoor flower, berry smell from week 4 of bloom |
| Haze / SSH | Vigor, vertical stretch, long internodes, cerebral and energetic reported effect, pine and incense notes | Two- to three-fold stretch after the flip, tall plants, resin that smells of citrus and cedar before curing |
Three ratios circulate for the same strain because Blue Dream is a polyhybrid with visible phenotype variation. The Blueberry-leaning phenotype is shorter, denser and more relaxing; the Haze-leaning phenotype is taller, more energetic and takes a week longer to finish. A breeder who selected the Haze expression will describe the plant as 70/30 or 80/20 sativa; one who stabilized the balanced expression will say 60/40. Bud Weed Seeds’ line is selected toward the balanced 60/40 phenotype, which keeps the stretch manageable indoors while preserving the berry profile. Growers should treat every ratio as a description of the breeder’s selection rather than a laboratory measurement.

Blue Dream rewards a steady, light-handed approach.
The plant is a heavy feeder in mid-flower, needs vertical headroom and good airflow, and gives clear signals at every stage. The guide below follows a photoperiod feminized plant through a typical indoor run of roughly 16 weeks; the autoflower and fast versions compress the schedule but follow the same stages. Photographs in Bud Weed Seeds’ own grow journal were taken from a 2026 indoor run under 600 W of LED in a 1.2 × 1.2 × 2.0 m tent.
| Week | Stage | Light | Temp / RH | Action |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | Germination | Dark, warm | 22–26 °C / 70–80% | Paper towel or direct sow, 24–72 h to taproot |
| 1–2 | Seedling | 18/6, low intensity | 22–26 °C / 65–70% | Small pot, water lightly at the edge, no nutrients |
| 3–4 | Early veg | 18/6 | 24–28 °C / 60–65% | Transplant to final pot (11–20 L), start ¼-strength veg feed |
| 5–6 | Veg | 18/6 | 24–28 °C / 55–60% | Top at node 4–5, begin low-stress training, ½-strength feed |
| 7 | Pre-flower | Switch to 12/12 | 24–27 °C / 55% | Last defoliation, install trellis or SCROG net |
| 8–10 | Stretch | 12/12 | 24–27 °C / 50–55% | Plant doubles or triples; tuck and spread, full bloom feed |
| 11–13 | Bud set | 12/12 | 22–26 °C / 45–50% | Heavy feeding, airflow through the canopy, odor control |
| 14–15 | Ripening | 12/12 | 20–24 °C / 40–45% | Flush, watch trichomes shift from clear to milky |
| 16 | Harvest | Dark 24–48 h optional | 18–21 °C / 55–60% (dry room) | Cut, hang-dry 10–14 days, jar-cure 3+ weeks |
Blue Dream seeds germinate in 24–72 hours at 21–27 °C. Bud Weed Seeds recognizes three methods under its germination guarantee; the paper-towel method is the one the team uses for its own test grows. Follow one of these to keep the guarantee valid.
Place seeds between two damp (not wet) paper towels on a plate, cover with a second plate, keep at 21–27 °C in the dark. Check daily; once the taproot is 5–10 mm long, plant root-down 5–10 mm deep in moist starter soil.
Plant the seed 5–10 mm deep in a small pot of pre-moistened, lightly fertilized soil. Keep warm and dark until the seedling breaks the surface in 3–7 days. Fewer handling errors, slightly slower.
Soak a rockwool or peat cube, drain, insert the seed 5 mm deep, keep humid under a dome at 22–26 °C. Transplant cube and all once roots show on the outside.
Do not soak seeds for more than 24 hours, do not plant in cold soil below 18 °C, and handle sprouted seeds with tweezers rather than fingers. A seed that has not cracked after seven days under correct conditions is covered by the germination guarantee.
Indoors, Blue Dream wants a tent with at least 1.8 m of usable height, strong light and good air exchange. The plant typically reaches 1.2–1.8 m after a 4–5 week veg, and most of that height arrives in the first three weeks of flower. The single most common indoor mistake is planning the tent around the seedling: a 60 cm plant at the flip will press against a 1.5 m ceiling by week ten. Topping at the fourth or fifth node and tying branches down during veg spreads the canopy, keeps the plant under control and opens more bud sites to the light.
Keep daytime temperatures at 24–28 °C during veg and 22–26 °C in flower, with relative humidity falling from 60% to 45% as buds thicken. Blue Dream’s dense colas hold moisture, so a fan moving air through the canopy — not just across the top — is the main defense against botrytis in the last three weeks. The berry aroma is strong from mid-flower onward; a carbon filter sized to the tent’s exhaust is not optional in a shared building. Feed moderately: the plant tolerates mistakes, but it does not need heavy nutrients to yield, and most of the gain comes from light intensity and canopy shape rather than feeding.
Outdoors, Blue Dream grows into a large plant — up to 3 m in the ground with full sun — and rewards a long, warm season with a yield that no indoor grow can match. The cultivar thrives in Mediterranean and continental climates with dry late summers; its mold resistance is good but not immune, and the dense colas are vulnerable to late-season rain. Fan leaves often turn blue-purple as night temperatures fall, a Blueberry trait that signals the last two weeks before harvest.
| Climate zone | Recommended version | Harvest window (N. hemisphere) | Harvest window (S. hemisphere) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mediterranean / warm temperate (dry autumn) | Feminized | Mid-October | Mid-April |
| Continental (warm summer, cool wet autumn) | Fast | Late September | Late March |
| Maritime / northern (short season, early frost) | Autoflower, two successive runs | July and September | January and March |
| Tropical / subtropical (12-hour days year-round) | Feminized, flowers almost immediately; or autoflower for size | Any month | Any month |
Plant after the last frost in a 50 L pot or in amended ground, stake or cage early because the branches will carry heavy colas, and scout for caterpillars and powdery mildew from August. Where the season ends before mid-October, the fast version finishes two to three weeks earlier and the autoflower can be run twice in one summer.
Blue Dream flowers in 8–10 weeks after the switch to 12/12, with Haze-leaning phenotypes occasionally running to 11. Treat the breeder-reported window as a starting point; the plant in front of the grower sets the actual date. Two signals matter. Pistils darken from white to amber and curl inward across most of the cola. Trichomes, viewed with a 30–60× loupe, shift from clear to cloudy, then to amber.
Harvest timing shifts the character of the finished flower more than any other single decision: an earlier cut leans energetic, a later cut leans sedative. Outdoors, photoperiod plants finish naturally in early to mid-October in the northern hemisphere.
Yield is a range, not a promise. The figures in the comparison table describe what a dialed-in setup reaches after a few runs; a first-time grower should expect the lower end and treat the top of the range as a goal. Indoors, the two biggest levers are light intensity (a 600 W LED over 1 m² versus a 250 W panel is the difference between 650 and 350 g) and canopy shape. Outdoors, root space and the length of the warm season do most of the work, while rain and pests in the last month are the main risks.

↑ Back to contentsEffects

Blue Dream’s aroma and reported effects follow its terpene profile.
Myrcene is the dominant terpene in most tested samples, followed by alpha-pinene and beta-caryophyllene, with limonene and linalool appearing in Haze-leaning phenotypes. Fresh-cut flower smells of citrus, cedar and sharp pine; after a three-week cure the Blueberry side comes forward and the jar smells of sweet berry, grape and a faint sandalwood note. The flavor on combustion is blueberry and sugar on the inhale with a citrus edge on the exhale.
Uplifting, creative, euphoric onset followed by a mellow body ease without heavy sedation. Users typically describe it as a daytime or early-evening strain. Effects vary by phenotype, harvest timing and individual tolerance.
Dry mouth and dry eyes are the most frequent. Some users report anxiety or racing thoughts at high doses, particularly with the Haze-leaning phenotype. Bud Weed Seeds makes no medical claims for this cultivar; see side effects in the FAQ.
Alternatives

Growers comparing Blue Dream with its parents or its “blue” cousins are usually choosing between flavor direction, flowering time and how much the plant stretches.
The table summarizes the differences; Bud Weed Seeds sells only Blue Dream, so this section is informational.

| Blue Haze | 70/30 sativa | 9–10 wk | Berry, haze, sharper | A hazier, more energetic blue-family hybrid |
| Blue Cheese | 60/40 indica | 8–9 wk | Cheese, berry, savory | Funkier flavor and a calmer, body-forward effect |
Legal status

The legal position of a cannabis seed is separate from the legal position of the plant it can grow.
A viable seed contains no measurable THC, and in a growing number of jurisdictions it is classified as hemp, a collectible or an agricultural product. Germinating that seed, however, is governed by national, state or provincial cultivation law almost everywhere. Bud Weed Seeds sells seeds to adults aged 21 and over, ships them as collectible genetic material, and expects every buyer to confirm the law that applies before germinating. The summary below is informational, not legal advice, and reflects the position as of October 2026.
| Region | Buying seeds | Germinating / growing | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | Legal federally: seeds under 0.3% delta-9 THC are hemp under the 2018 Farm Bill (7 U.S.C. §1639o), confirmed by a DEA letter in January 2022 | Depends on state law; roughly half of states permit home cultivation with plant limits | Some states restrict possession of seeds regardless of federal status |
| Canada | Legal | Up to four plants per household in most provinces under the Cannabis Act; Quebec and Manitoba prohibit home growing | Seeds must come from a licensed source for legal cultivation |
| United Kingdom | Legal to buy and possess as collectibles | Illegal without a Home Office licence | Seeds are not a controlled substance; germination is |
| European Union | Legal in most member states as collectibles or hemp genetics | Varies: Germany permits three plants per adult; Spain tolerates private cultivation; most other states prohibit | Check national law, not EU law |
| Australia / New Zealand | Restricted; seeds are treated as cannabis in most states | Legal only in the Australian Capital Territory (two plants per person) | Import may be seized at customs |
| Other regions | Varies widely; several countries in Asia and the Middle East criminalize seeds | Prohibited in most | Bud Weed Seeds does not ship to countries where seed possession is a criminal offence |

Five seeds, five females. Topped once at node five and ran a net; finished at day 66 under 12/12 with about 480 g from four plants in a 1.2 m tent. Stretch was no joke — planned for it and still had to supercrop two branches.

The breeder

Bud Weed Seeds is a seed bank and breeding operation founded in 2012 by a team of three growers with a combined 40 years of cultivation experience across Northern California, Oregon and the Netherlands.
The company maintains its own mother stock for every line it sells rather than reselling third-party packs, which is why specifications on this page come from in-house grow data rather than copied breeder sheets. Feminized seeds are produced by silver-thiosulfate reversal of a selected female, with every batch tested for female rate before release; autoflower and fast lines are developed through multi-generation back-crossing to keep the Blue Dream flavor and structure intact. Each seed lot is laboratory tested to confirm delta-9 THC below 0.3% so it can be shipped as hemp genetics.

↑ Back to contentsQuestions

Nineteen questions growers most often ask about Blue Dream seeds. Figures are taken from the comparison table; legal and health answers carry the same disclaimers as the sections above.
Blue Dream is a sativa-dominant hybrid, approximately 60% sativa and 40% indica, bred from Blueberry (indica) and Haze (sativa). The plant grows tall and stretchy like a sativa but produces dense, resinous buds with a berry profile from its indica side. See genetics and lineage.
Feminized Blue Dream flowers in 8–10 weeks after the light cycle is switched to 12/12; the fast version finishes in 7–8 weeks; the autoflower completes its whole cycle in 9–10 weeks from seed. Outdoors, photoperiod plants finish in early to mid-October in the northern hemisphere. Details in flowering time and harvest.
Indoors, feminized Blue Dream yields 550–700 g/m² (1.8–2.3 oz/ft²) in a well-lit, trained setup; a first grow usually lands at 400–550 g/m². Outdoors a single plant in good soil with a full season produces 600 g to 3 kg. Autoflowers yield 350–450 g/m² or 60–150 g per plant. Use the yield table for a figure matched to your space.
Yes. Blue Dream is one of the most frequently recommended first-grow cultivars because it tolerates nutrient and watering mistakes, resists mold and pests better than most strains, and shows clear maturity signals. The one trait a beginner must manage is height: the plant stretches two to three times after the flip and needs either training or a tall tent.
Choose feminized for maximum yield and full control indoors or in a warm outdoor climate. Choose autoflower for a small space, a balcony or a short season where speed matters more than size. Choose fast when the grow is outdoors in a region with cool, wet Octobers and the plant must finish by late September. The comparison table lists every number side by side.
Yes. Bud Weed Seeds’ autoflower Blue Dream is both feminized and autoflowering, so every plant is female and flowers on its own timer. The difference from the photoperiod line is the grow cycle, not the sex ratio.
Breeder-reported THC for Bud Weed Seeds’ feminized Blue Dream is 18–24%, with autoflower at 17–21% and fast at 18–22%. Actual potency depends on phenotype, light intensity, harvest timing and curing; the figures describe tested flower from in-house grows, not a guarantee for every plant.
Indoors, a trained feminized plant finishes at 1.2–1.8 m; untrained it can exceed 2 m. Outdoors in the ground it reaches up to 3 m. Autoflowers stay at 0.6–1.2 m. Most of the height arrives in the first three weeks of flowering. See growing indoors.
Because the strain shows two phenotypes — a balanced Blueberry-leaning plant and a taller Haze-leaning plant — and each breeder describes the one they selected. Bud Weed Seeds’ line is stabilized toward the 60/40 expression. The ratio is a description of selection, not a laboratory measurement. Full explanation under genetics.
In the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and most of the European Union, buying and possessing cannabis seeds is legal because a seed contains under 0.3% THC and is treated as hemp or a collectible. Germinating the seed is a separate question governed by local cultivation law. Buyers must be 21 or older and are responsible for checking the rules that apply to them; see the regional legal table.
Feminized and fast Blue Dream cost $15 per seed in a pack of three, $13.80 in a pack of five, $11.90 in a pack of ten and $9.96 in a pack of 25. Autoflower seeds cost $16.33, $15.80, $13.90 and $10.76 per seed respectively. Free seeds are added to every order over $75.
Bud Weed Seeds ships to every country where seed possession is lawful, in plain packaging with no reference to the contents on the box or the customs form. Transit takes 3–7 business days in the US, 5–10 to Canada, 7–14 to the UK and EU and 10–21 elsewhere. Orders over $75 ship free. See shipping.

The paper-towel method: seeds between damp paper towels on a covered plate at 21–27 °C in the dark, checked daily, planted root-down 5–10 mm deep once the taproot reaches 5–10 mm. Direct sowing and starter cubes also work and are covered by the guarantee. Step-by-step instructions are in germinating Blue Dream seeds.
In the sealed original pouch inside an airtight container in a cool, dark, dry place — a refrigerator at 4–8 °C is ideal. Avoid freezing and avoid repeated temperature swings. Stored this way, seeds keep a high germination rate for two to three years.
The most commonly reported adverse effects are dry mouth and dry eyes. A minority of users report anxiety, dizziness or racing thoughts at high doses, more often with the Haze-leaning phenotype. Blue Dream is not a medical product and Bud Weed Seeds makes no therapeutic claims; adults should start with a small amount and consult a physician about any health concern.
A clone reproduces one known phenotype and skips germination, but it inherits any pests, disease or viroid the mother carries and lacks the vigor of a seed-grown taproot. Seeds from a stable line give a pest-free start, stronger root systems and the chance to select a keeper phenotype to clone from later. For a first grow, or for building a mother plant, seeds are the more reliable starting point.
