Jack Herer is a 1994 Sensi Seeds cross of Haze, Northern Lights #5 and Shiva Skunk that has become one of the most widely copied sativa-dominant cultivars on the market. Named after the American author of The Emperor Wears No Clothes, the strain carries nine High Times Cannabis Cup titles, was distributed through Dutch pharmacies under the name Bedrocan, and is now sold by almost every seed bank in feminized, autoflowering and, more rarely, regular form. Breeders typically claim 18–24% THC; Sensi Seeds’ own lab-tested grow report recorded 26.92%. This guide explains how Jack Herer seeds differ between breeders, which seed type suits which grower, what the plant actually does over a 91-day cycle, and where the seeds can be bought and legally germinated.

Key takeaways
Jack Herer is a 1994 Sensi Seeds cross of Haze, Northern Lights #5 and Shiva Skunk; breeders claim 18–24% THC and Sensi’s lab-tested plant recorded 26.92%.
The name was never trademarked: only Sensi Seeds sells the original line and the only regular seeds; every other bank sells a reproduction, and Green House sells a different Haze × Red Skunk cross under the same name.
Feminized seeds deliver 500–600 g/m² in 60–70 days of flowering but can increase fivefold in height after the switch to 12/12; autoflowers finish in 10–12 weeks at 60–110 cm.
Sensi’s untrained reference grow ran 91 days from seed to harvest and yielded 80 g of dried flower from a single 5-litre pot.
Eight seed banks sell Jack Herer at $1 to $16.63 per seed; ILGM offers the strongest guarantee (12 months) but ships only within the United States.

Origins
What Are Jack Herer Seeds?
A sativa-dominant hybrid created by Sensi Seeds in the Netherlands and named after the author whose 1985 book became the reference text of the hemp-legalisation movement.
Jack Herer seeds are the seeds of a sativa-dominant hybrid cannabis cultivar created by Sensi Seeds in the Netherlands and named in honour of Jack Herer (1939–2010), the Buffalo-born activist whose 1985 book The Emperor Wears No Clothes became the reference text of the hemp-legalisation movement. The book sold more than 800,000 copies, and Sensi Seeds was among the organisations that backed its publication, which explains why founder Ben Dronkers chose Herer’s name for what the company still calls its “champagne of strains”.
The strain itself was the result of several years of breeding and stabilisation and was formally launched in 1994 at a ceremony in Sensi’s Cannabis Castle. Its parents came from the breeding stock of Neville’s Seed Bank, which Sensi had acquired: a Haze male crossed onto a Northern Lights #5 × Shiva Skunk female. Community-sourced estimates on SeedFinder put the resulting genetic split at roughly 50% Haze, 37.5% Northern Lights #5 and 12.5% Skunk #1, which is why the plant combines a cerebral Haze effect with the resin production and manageable flowering time of its indica parents.
Recognition followed quickly. In the 1990s the Dutch government accepted Jack Herer into its medical cannabis programme, where it was dispensed through pharmacies under the Bedrocan name, and the strain went on to win the High Times Cannabis Cup nine times across different years and categories. Jack Herer the activist died in 2010; the strain remains one of the best-selling classic genetics in the world, and today almost every seed bank sells its own version of it, which is precisely why the genetics behind a given pack matter.

Three parent lines define Jack Herer, and because the name was never trademarked, three very different things can be sold under it.
Three parent lines define Jack Herer. Haze, a Californian sativa built from Colombian, Mexican, Thai and South Indian landraces, contributes the soaring, clear-headed effect, the citrus-pine terpene profile and the pronounced vertical stretch after the switch to flowering. Northern Lights #5, the most celebrated phenotype of the Afghani-rooted Northern Lights family, brings heavy trichome coverage, compact bud structure and a flowering time far shorter than a pure Haze. Shiva Skunk, itself a Sensi cross of Skunk #1 and Northern Lights #5, adds vigour, yield and resistance to common pests and diseases.
Because the name was never trademarked, “Jack Herer” on a seed pack does not guarantee the Sensi genetics. Green House Seeds, for example, sells a Jack Herer bred from Haze × Red Skunk that the company describes as 60% indica and that tested at 20.94% THC, 0.12% CBD and 0.04% CBN. Royal Queen Seeds’ version is an autoflowering recreation sold as Royal Jack Auto. ILGM, Blimburn, Seed Supreme and most US seed banks sell in-house feminized reproductions that keep the Haze × NL#5 × Shiva Skunk description but are grown from their own selected mothers. Growers who want the original line must buy regular or feminized seeds directly from Sensi Seeds; everyone else is buying an interpretation, which can be excellent but is not identical.

The Three Jack Herer Phenotypes
Sensi Seeds has always described Jack Herer as a multi-phenotype strain, and SeedFinder reviewers growing the original regular seeds consistently report three distinct expressions. The Haze-leaning phenotype grows tallest, stretches hardest after 12/12, takes the full 70 days or longer to finish and smells most strongly of citrus and incense. The balanced phenotype is the one most breeders have selected for their feminized lines: medium height, 60–65 days of flowering, pine-and-pepper aroma. The Northern Lights-leaning phenotype stays compact, finishes earliest and produces the densest, most resinous buds with a more earthy, spicy nose. The differences become visible around week three or four of vegetative growth in leaf width and internode spacing, which is why reviews of the same pack can describe plants of 1.2 m and 1.8 m with equal accuracy. One verified WeedSeedsExpress grower, for instance, reported phenotypes “leaning to the sativa heritage topping out at 1.8 m indoors” even after super-cropping in the second week of flower.

Jack Herer Feminized vs Autoflower vs Regular Seeds
The choice between the three seed types has more influence on the outcome of a grow than the choice between breeders.
Jack Herer is sold in three seed types, and the choice between them has more influence on the outcome of a grow than the choice between breeders. Feminized photoperiod seeds dominate the market and deliver the largest harvests; autoflowering seeds trade yield and size for speed and simplicity; regular seeds are the only route to the original Sensi genetics and to breeding. Each has a clear use case, and none is universally better.
Jack Herer Feminized Seeds (Photoperiod)
Feminized Jack Herer seeds are bred to produce female plants at a rate most banks quote as 99.99%, so every seed can be grown to harvest without sexing or removing males. The plants are photoperiod-dependent: they remain in vegetative growth under 18 hours of light and begin flowering when the schedule is cut to 12 hours of light and 12 of darkness. This gives the grower control over final size, because vegetative growth can be extended or shortened at will. Flowering takes 60–70 days, indoor yields of 500–600 g/m² are typical, and outdoor plants in a warm climate reach 2 m and 600–800 g each. The trade-off is height: the plant can double in size after the switch, which rules it out for low tents without training. Prices for feminized Jack Herer run from about $7 to $17 per seed across the banks compared below.

Jack Herer Autoflower Seeds
Autoflowering Jack Herer seeds cross the original genetics with Cannabis ruderalis, a subspecies that flowers on age rather than light schedule. The result finishes in 10–12 weeks from seed under a constant 18/6 or 20/4 light cycle, stays between 60 and 110 cm tall and never needs a schedule change, which makes it the simplest version to grow on a balcony, in a small tent or in a short outdoor season where two or three harvests are possible. ILGM lists its Jack Herer Autoflower at 23% THC; Royal Queen Seeds describes its Royal Jack Auto as having a “Haze-like, peppery aroma” close to the original. The costs are lower yield per plant, less tolerance of early stress because the short vegetative window gives no time to recover, and the fact that autoflowers cannot usefully be cloned.

Jack Herer Regular Seeds
Regular Jack Herer seeds produce male and female plants in roughly equal numbers, so the grower must identify and remove males before pollination unless breeding is the goal. Sensi Seeds is the only breeder in the current market that still sells Jack Herer in regular form, which makes regular seeds the sole route to the unaltered 1994 genetics and to the full three-phenotype spread. They are also the right choice for anyone who wants to make seeds, select a keeper mother or build their own feminized line.

A daytime strain by consensus: an immediate lift, a clear and focused headspace, and no crash at the end.
Jack Herer is a daytime strain by consensus. The effect arrives almost immediately as a lift in mood and mental energy that reviewers compare to strong coffee without the nervousness, settles into a clear, focused headspace that growers commonly choose for creative work, socialising and physical activity, and ends without a crash or heavy sedation. The 45% indica share expresses itself late in the experience as mild bodily relaxation rather than couch-lock. Seed Supreme and Pacific Seed Bank both describe it as a strain reached for in cases of low energy, stress and poor appetite, and the Dutch medical programme’s decision to dispense it as Bedrocan reflects the same profile; none of this constitutes a medical claim, and effects vary by phenotype, dose and individual.
The aroma evolves through the grow. In flower the plants give off a mild herbal, earthy scent; after drying and curing, terpinolene pushes forward a fresh citrus-and-pine note, caryophyllene adds black pepper and spice, and myrcene ties them together with a damp, earthy base. Sensi’s cured harvest was described as sweet and floral with cinnamon and pine; Seed Supreme calls it “dank, wet and musty”, which is the same profile read from the earthy end. On the palate the dominant notes are pine, citrus and herbal sweetness with a peppery finish.
Adverse effects and safety. ILGM lists cottonmouth, dry eyes and paranoia as the most common adverse reactions, and high-THC phenotypes can feel intense at larger doses. Jack Herer is not recommended before sleep. Nothing on this page is medical advice; anyone with a health condition, or who is pregnant or taking medication, should consult a physician before using cannabis.
Cannabis cultivation is illegal in many jurisdictions. The information below is educational and intended only for regions where home growing is permitted; see the legal status section before germinating any seed.
Breeders disagree about difficulty: ILGM rates Jack Herer “Beginner”, Pacific Seed Bank “Intermediate” and WeedSeedsExpress “Advanced”. The disagreement is explained by the phenotype spread and the stretch. A balanced phenotype in a stable room is one of the more forgiving classic strains, which is what Sensi’s own untrained 91-day grow demonstrated; a Haze-leaning phenotype in a low tent with unstable humidity will punish inexperience. With adequate height, ventilation and odour control, growers of any level can finish it.
Germination (Paper Towel Method)
The paper-towel method is the one most seed banks require under their germination guarantees, and ILGM, Pacific Seed Bank and Premium Cultivars all describe the same sequence. Expected germination for fresh, properly stored seed is about 90%, which is why Pacific advises buying 10% more seeds than the number of plants planned. Taproots normally appear within 24–72 hours; seeds that show nothing after seven days are the ones to claim under a guarantee.
Soak
Soak the seeds in room-temperature distilled water for 12–24 hours until they sink.
Lay out
Lay them 3–5 cm apart between two layers of damp, not dripping, paper towel on a plate.
Cover
Cover with a second plate or loose plastic wrap to hold humidity.
Keep dark and warm
Keep the plate in a dark place at 21–25 °C and check the towels stay moist.
Check
Check after 24–72 hours; a seed is ready when the taproot reaches 1–1.5 cm.
Transfer
Transfer taproot-down into a pre-moistened starter cube or 1-litre pot of light soil, 5–10 mm deep.
Indoor Growing: Light, Climate and Space
Indoors Jack Herer follows the standard photoperiod regime: 18 hours of light during vegetative growth, 12 hours of light and 12 of uninterrupted darkness to flower. Sensi ran its reference grow at 23 °C with lights on and 21 °C off, 65% relative humidity in veg, tapering to 52% by the final weeks of flower to prevent mould in the dense colas; most growers aim for 21–27 °C and 45–60% RH in flower. The single most important planning figure is the stretch: Sensi’s plant was 19 cm tall when flipped to 12/12 and finished at 95 cm, a fivefold increase in a 5-litre pot with no training. Rooms with limited ceiling height should flip early or train. A carbon filter is not optional; the plant’s pine-citrus smell becomes pronounced from mid-flower.

Outdoor Growing and Harvest Window
Outdoors Jack Herer wants a warm, dry Mediterranean-type climate with full sun and a long season, because the Haze heritage extends flowering. In the Northern Hemisphere plants are harvested from late September to mid-October; in the Southern Hemisphere the equivalent window is late March to mid-April. Plants routinely exceed 1.8 m and can reach 2.4 m in open ground, so staking or trellising is necessary in windy sites; one verified outdoor grower reported six-foot plants “covered with massive buds” that had to be stabilised against wind. Humidity in the final weeks is the main risk: dense colas hold moisture, and bud rot follows prolonged rain, so a greenhouse or rain cover improves the odds in wetter regions.
Training: LST, SCROG and Topping
Training is optional for Jack Herer but valuable. Sensi harvested 80 g from an untrained plant under a 1000 W HPS, which shows the plant can be left alone; it also shows the apical cola dominating a canopy that could have been flattened for more light. Low-stress training, which bends and ties branches without cutting, suits the strain’s long, flexible side branches and is the safest option for autoflowers. Topping, cutting the main stem above the fourth or fifth node to split one cola into two, controls height and should be done well before the switch to 12/12 so the plant recovers. Screen of green, growing the canopy through a horizontal net, is the technique that extracts the most from the stretch, and both Green House and WeedSeedsExpress recommend SCROG or SOG for maximising yield.

Common Problems and How to Avoid Them
Jack Herer is resistant to many common diseases, but the problems that do occur are predictable. Overwatering is the most frequent beginner error and shows as drooping, yellowing leaves in a wet pot. Spider mites and thrips are the pests most often reported; Sensi managed them preventively by releasing predatory mites (Hypoaspis miles, Amblyseius cucumeris and Amblyseius californicus) rather than spraying. Powdery mildew and bud rot follow high humidity in flower. Nutrient deficiencies appear as discolouration and stunted growth, and Sensi’s report shows the plant was content on a basic organic feed at EC 1.3–1.8 and pH 6.2 throughout.

Jack Herer Grow Report: 91 Days From Seed to Harvest
The most complete public record of a Jack Herer grow is Sensi Seeds’ own feminized grow report, published in March 2023.
The most complete public record of a Jack Herer grow is Sensi Seeds’ own feminized grow report, published in March 2023, and the data below summarises it. The plant was germinated in a jiffy pellet, moved to a 1-litre and then a 5-litre pot of BAC Lava Mix soil, grown under a 1000 W Philips Green Power HPS at 300 cm, fed Bio Grow and Bio Flower at EC 1.3–1.8 and pH 6.2, and given 21 days of vegetative growth before the switch to 12/12. No topping, training or defoliation was used. Beneficial insects were released in weeks one, three, four, seven and eight as a preventive integrated pest management programme, and no pest pressure appeared.
Flowering ran 70 days. The plant was 19 cm tall at the flip and 95 cm at harvest, with the largest single-week gain, 20 cm, in week eight. Trichomes were checked from week eleven and the plant was harvested in week thirteen when heads were mostly milky with a few amber. The whole plant was hung to dry for 18 days at 15.5 °C and 60% RH, trimmed, then cured in jars for six weeks before storage at 62% RH. The dried yield was 80 g from a single 5-litre pot, and a sample sent to a third-party laboratory returned 26.92% THC. Sensi’s conclusion was that the strain was “an easy plant to grow” suitable for growers of all levels; the untouched apical cola and the fivefold stretch are the two details experienced growers will read as an argument for training.

Because the name is unprotected, the practical question for a buyer is not “which bank is cheapest” but “whose Jack Herer is this”. The table separates original breeders from in-house reproductions and resellers. Sensi Seeds is the only source of the 1994 line and the only breeder offering regular seeds. Green House Seeds sells a different cross under the same name. Royal Queen Seeds and ILGM are the reference autoflower sources. Blimburn, Seed Supreme and WeedSeedsExpress sell feminized reproductions with a strong review base. Pacific Seed Bank’s version is bred by Original Harvest Seeds, and North Atlantic Seed Co. resells both the Green House line and a bulk white-label feminized version at $1–2 per seed in quantities above 200.

Growers choosing Jack Herer are usually weighing it against other daytime sativas, and seed banks cross-sell the same four alternatives. Super Lemon Haze, itself a Jack Herer descendant through Super Silver Haze, is the choice for a sharper lemon profile and higher THC at the cost of a longer flower. Green Crack is faster and shorter with a tropical, fruity nose but a more racy effect. Durban Poison is the pure landrace sativa for growers who want clarity without any indica body effect. Jack Herer Auto is the same flavour and effect in a smaller, faster plant.

Eight seed banks account for most of the Jack Herer seeds sold online, and they differ far more on guarantee, shipping region and payment than on the seeds themselves. ILGM offers the strongest guarantee (free replacement within 12 months, one reship per order, proof of purchase required) but ships only within the United States from its Modesto, California warehouse. WeedSeedsExpress ships from New York and accepts seven payment methods including Venmo, cash and crypto via Coingate. Seed Supreme and Premium Cultivars have the lowest cost per seed thanks to buy-one-get-one packs, with the caveat that Premium Cultivars’ own reviews include a three-star “only 1 out of 3 propagated” and the bank does not replace packages marked delivered. Sensi Seeds ships from Amsterdam and is the right order for the original genetics; Herbies serves international buyers from a US hub. Prices were checked on 15 October 2026 and change with promotions.

How many Jack Herer seeds do I need?
Divide the number of plants planned by 0.9 to allow for a 90% expected germination rate, then add a 10% safety margin and round up. The table gives the result for common plant counts and the pack size that covers it.
Seeds to order: plants ÷ 90% expected germination + 10% safety margin, rounded up
The legal status of a cannabis seed is separate from the legal status of the plant it produces, and buying is permitted in far more places than germinating.
The legal status of a cannabis seed is separate from the legal status of the plant it produces, and the two are governed by different rules in almost every country. Buying and possessing seeds is permitted in far more places than germinating them. The summary below reflects the law as of October 2026; it is not legal advice, laws change, and readers must verify the current rules of their own state, province or country before ordering or germinating.
United States
Buying: hemp under 0.3% THCGerminating: state law
Buying: seeds containing under 0.3% delta-9 THC are classified as hemp under the 2018 Farm Bill, a position the Drug Enforcement Administration confirmed in a January 2022 letter. Germinating: governed by state law; home cultivation is legal in roughly half the states and remains illegal in others, which is why banks such as Premium Cultivars refuse to ship seeds to Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, South Carolina and Wyoming. Sources: DEA letter (Jan 2022); USDA hemp rule (7 CFR 990).
Canada
Buying: legalGerminating: 4 plants
Buying: legal for adults under the Cannabis Act (2018). Germinating: up to four plants per household from licensed seed nationally, except in Quebec and Manitoba, where provincial law prohibits home growing. Source: Health Canada, Cannabis Act and Regulations.
European Union and United Kingdom
Buying: collectors’ itemsGerminating: varies
Buying: seeds are generally sold and possessed legally as collectors’ items, which is why Sensi Seeds and other EU banks label them for genetic preservation. Germinating: Germany permits three plants per adult since April 2024; Malta and Luxembourg allow limited home growing; the Netherlands tolerates up to five plants; the UK, France, Sweden and most other members prohibit cultivation. Sources: German Cannabis Act (CanG, 2024); national criminal codes.
Rest of the world
Mostly prohibited
Australia permits home growing only in the Australian Capital Territory; South Africa allows private cultivation after the 2018 Constitutional Court ruling; Thailand reversed decriminalisation in 2025; most of Asia, the Middle East and Africa treat seeds and plants alike as prohibited. Readers outside the regions above should check national law before ordering, and sellers reserve the right to refuse shipments to prohibited destinations.
Every seed bank listed on this page requires buyers to be at least 18 or 21 years old depending on jurisdiction, and all sell seeds on the condition that the buyer complies with local law. Growers in prohibited regions should not germinate.
Across the four banks that publish verified-buyer ratings, Jack Herer seeds average between 4.6 and 4.9 out of 5.
Across the four banks that publish verified-buyer ratings for the strain, Jack Herer seeds average between 4.6 and 4.9 out of 5, with germination rate and plant vigour the most praised attributes and phenotype variation the most common complaint. The negative reviews are instructive: a Premium Cultivars buyer rated the seeds four stars because the plants “threw so much purple” and did not smell like the Jack Herer he knew, and another reported one germination from three seeds. Both are consistent with the reproduction-versus-original distinction explained in the genetics section; buyers who want a predictable expression should buy from a breeder with a stable selected mother or from Sensi directly.
The questions below are the ones growers most often put to seed banks and search engines about Jack Herer. Figures are taken from the strain profile; legal and health answers carry the same disclaimers as the sections above.
The strain
What is the THC level of Jack Herer seeds?
Most seed banks list Jack Herer at 18–24% THC. Sensi Seeds’ lab-tested grow report recorded 26.92% from a single indoor plant, and Green House Seeds’ Haze × Red Skunk version tested at 20.94%. Actual potency depends on phenotype, growing conditions and harvest timing, so a range is more honest than a single figure.
Who created the Jack Herer strain and when?
Sensi Seeds in Amsterdam, led by founder Ben Dronkers, launched Jack Herer in 1994 after several years of stabilisation, using breeding stock acquired from Neville’s Seed Bank. It was named after the activist and author Jack Herer in recognition of The Emperor Wears No Clothes.
What are the parent strains of Jack Herer?
Haze, Northern Lights #5 and Shiva Skunk. Shiva Skunk is itself a Skunk #1 × Northern Lights #5 cross, which is why community estimates put the final make-up at about 50% Haze, 37.5% NL#5 and 12.5% Skunk #1.
What are the effects of Jack Herer?
An immediate, energetic and euphoric lift followed by clear-headed focus, with mild physical relaxation late in the experience and no heavy sedation. It is consistently described as a daytime strain. Dry mouth, dry eyes and, at high doses, anxiety or paranoia are the reported adverse effects.
What terpenes give Jack Herer its pine-citrus smell?
Terpinolene is dominant and supplies the fresh citrus and pine notes; caryophyllene adds pepper and spice; myrcene provides the earthy base; pinene reinforces the pine. Nerolidol, limonene and delta-3-carene appear in smaller amounts.
What climate and temperature does Jack Herer prefer?
A warm, sunny and relatively dry climate. Indoors, 21–27 °C with lights on, a few degrees cooler at night, and humidity falling from about 65% in veg to 45–52% in late flower. Outdoors it performs best in Mediterranean-type conditions with a long season.
Why do different breeders’ Jack Herer seeds differ?
The name was never protected. Sensi Seeds sells the 1994 original; Green House sells a different Haze × Red Skunk cross under the same name; most US banks sell feminized reproductions selected from their own mothers. Each expresses the three phenotypes differently, which explains divergent reviews of height, flowering time and aroma.
Growing
Are Jack Herer seeds feminized or autoflowering?
Both exist. Feminized photoperiod seeds are the most common and yield the most; autoflowering versions such as ILGM’s Jack Herer Auto and Royal Queen’s Royal Jack Auto finish in 10–12 weeks at lower height. Only Sensi Seeds sells regular seeds. Check the product listing, as all three are sold under the same name.
How long is the flowering time of Jack Herer?
60–70 days indoors after the switch to 12/12, or 8–10 weeks. Haze-leaning phenotypes can take longer. Outdoors, harvest falls in late September to mid-October in the Northern Hemisphere and late March to mid-April in the Southern.
What yield can I expect from Jack Herer indoors and outdoors?
Indoors, 500–600 g/m², roughly 1–1.5 g per watt of lighting; Sensi’s untrained reference plant produced 80 g in a 5-litre pot. Outdoors in a warm climate, 600–800 g per plant is typical, with reports of up to 25 oz.
How tall does Jack Herer grow?
Indoors 95–130 cm with a short veg, up to 180 cm if vegged longer or untrained, because the plant can increase fivefold after the switch to flowering. Outdoors 180–240 cm. Autoflower versions stay at 60–110 cm.
Is Jack Herer easy to grow for beginners?
Moderately. ILGM rates it beginner-friendly, Pacific intermediate and WeedSeedsExpress advanced; the difference is phenotype and height. In a room with 1.8 m of clearance, stable humidity and a carbon filter, a first-time grower can finish it, and Sensi’s report shows it needs no training. Autoflower Jack Herer is the easier entry point.
How do I germinate Jack Herer seeds?
Soak for 12–24 hours, then place between damp paper towels in a dark spot at 21–25 °C; taproots appear within 24–72 hours. The full six-step method and guarantee conditions are in the growing section.
When should I harvest Jack Herer outdoors?
Late September to mid-October in the Northern Hemisphere, when trichomes are mostly milky with a few amber heads under magnification. Harvest earlier rather than later if prolonged rain is forecast, because the dense colas are vulnerable to bud rot.
Does Jack Herer smell strong while growing?
Yes. The pine, citrus and spice aroma becomes pronounced from mid-flower and intensifies at harvest. Indoor growers need a carbon filter sized to the extraction fan.
Is Jack Herer good for anxiety?
Reviewers and seed banks frequently describe Jack Herer as uplifting and chosen for everyday stress, but it is a high-THC sativa and some users report the opposite effect at larger doses. This is not medical advice; anyone considering cannabis for a health condition should speak to a physician.
Legal and shipping
Are cannabis seeds legal to buy?
In the United States, seeds under 0.3% delta-9 THC are hemp under the 2018 Farm Bill, confirmed by the DEA in 2022; in Canada they are legal under the Cannabis Act; in most of Europe they are sold legally as collectors’ items. Germination is a separate question governed by state or national law. See the legal status section; this is not legal advice.
Which US states can’t seed banks ship to?
Policies vary by bank. Premium Cultivars, for example, excludes Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, South Carolina and Wyoming, while ILGM and Seed Supreme state that they ship to all US states. Buyers remain responsible for confirming their own state’s cultivation law.
Can I buy Jack Herer seeds in Europe or Canada?
Yes. Sensi Seeds ships the original line from Amsterdam across the EU and UK; Royal Queen Seeds and Herbies serve international buyers; Canadian residents can order from licensed domestic sources. Home growing is legal in Canada outside Quebec and Manitoba and in Germany, Malta and Luxembourg within plant limits.
How long does seed delivery take and is it discreet?
US-warehouse banks deliver in 1–5 business days (ILGM, WeedSeedsExpress, Seed Supreme); Premium Cultivars adds 2–4 days of processing. All banks listed ship in plain packaging with no reference to cannabis or seeds on the outside.
Ordering
How much do Jack Herer seeds cost per seed?
From about $1–2 for bulk white-label seeds to $16.63 for a three-pack at Pacific Seed Bank. Typical branded feminized packs work out at $7–$15 per seed; buy-one-get-one offers at ILGM and Seed Supreme roughly halve the effective price. Sensi’s regular seeds cost about €3.60 each.
What happens if my seeds don’t germinate?
Most banks replace them. ILGM’s guarantee runs 12 months from purchase, requires the order number and its recommended germination method, and allows one reship per order. WeedSeedsExpress replaces seeds lost or damaged in transit. Premium Cultivars does not replace packages marked delivered unless Guaranteed Shipping was purchased.
Which payment methods do seed banks accept?
All accept major cards. WeedSeedsExpress adds Venmo, cash by mail, checks, money orders and crypto through Coingate; ILGM accepts Zelle, ACH, cash and Bitcoin; Pacific Seed Bank accepts Bitcoin. Cash and crypto are the options buyers choose for anonymity.
How many seeds should I buy for a given number of plants?
Divide the number of plants by 0.9 to allow for a 90% germination rate, then add 10% as a safety margin: four plants call for five seeds, ten plants for twelve. The seed-count table above does the arithmetic and suggests a pack size.

Michael Bennett selects the lines carried in the Bud Weed Seeds catalogue and sets the criteria a breeding programme has to meet before its packs are stocked: documented generation and parent stock, phenotype variation inside an acceptable band, and an incoming batch that clears 90% on germination testing.
He is responsible for the germination method published on this site and for the terms the guarantee is written against, and he reviews the regulatory summary whenever the position in a listed market changes.
